Moon Folklore Lesson Plan
Grade Level: K-4 grades

Lesson Objectives:
- ELA-1-E5 reading, comprehending, and responding to written,
spoken, and visual texts in extended passages; (1, 3, 4)
- ELA-4-E2 giving and following directions/procedures; (1, 4)
- ELA-4-E5 speaking and listening for a variety of audiences
(e.g., classroom, real-life, workplace) and purposes (e.g.,
awareness, concentration, enjoyment, information, problem
solving); (1, 2, 4, 5)
- ELA-4-E6 listening and responding to a wide variety of media
(e.g., music, TV, film, speech); (1, 3, 4, 5)
- ELA-5-E4 using available technology to produce, revise, and
publish a variety of works; (1, 3, 4)
- ELA-6-E2 recognizing and responding to a variety of classic
and contemporary literature from many genres (e.g., folktales,
legends, myths, biography, autobiography, poetry, fiction,

tools, and word processing software) for individual and for
simple collaborative writing, communication, and publishing

Procedures:
- The teacher will introduce folklore stories to the children.
- Instructions
for using the HyperStudio Stack. The students will stay
as a whole group while the teacher navigates through the
HyperStudio stack
provided on Moon Folklore. Note: To view the
HyperStudio stack you will need to download the HyperStudio
plugin 3.3 and QuickTime
4.0
- After listening and seeing the Moon Folklore stack, students
will decide what they see in the moon, and create a card
for a HyperStudio (HyperStudio
Instructions) stack or a KidPix picture to be placed
in a slideshow.
- Break students into groups and let them brainstorm to decide
what they see in the moon. Let the students do an Internet search
using an appropriate Search Engine.
- Have them fill out the
HyperStudio planning sheet or
KidPix planning sheet.
- Demonstrate the appropriate software if necessary. (Allow
students to be coaches)
- The teacher or assigned student will combine the cards
to create one stack to show the class.
- Let each group present there card.
- Assess student work with a rubric: Student
